MSF Executive Council Election 2001

Leonie Cooper is standing for the NEC because she wants to represent the interests of the ordinary members at work and wants the union to pursue mainstream progressive policies.

Leonie works for a Housing Association in London and has worked in the voluntary sector for 20 years, mainly in inner city areas.

She has been an active member of the union, and has successfully negotiated union recognition as well as improved terms and conditions in several workplaces.

Leonie has worked as a member of her regional council and management committee, and Regional Womens Officer for several years, during which time she was active in recruiting members into MSF. She has also chaired and helped facilitate sessions at a number of weekend schools.

Leonie has also represented her Region on the MSF National Womens Sub-Committee, and on the SERTUC Womens Committee.

Leonie is pleased to have received so many nominations from such a wide range of locations and sectors, many more than any other candidate.

Leonie's election address:

I stand for election to ensure that the interests of the ordinary members are promoted - not any extreme political grouping.

In the context of the new union, I would want to make sure we are a focused, campaigning union aiming to improve the lives of all our members and their families.

As an NEC member, I will work hard to ensure that our campaigning agenda never departs from the essential priorities of:

  • Improving the pay/conditions and the Health & Safety standards for every member.
  • Promoting the interests of our manufacturing members and their industries
  • Total commitment to real equal opportunities at the workplace
  • More resources to support the finance sector at a time of great change
  • Continuing the success of our growing memberships in the health and public sectors

Please support me to help secure the best future for our union.
