CAMPAIGN FOR A
DEMOCRATIC UNION
VOTE AGAINST THE AEEU MERGER
Leading up to the
first week in March you will receive a ballot paper to vote on the proposed
merger of MSF and the AEEU. The merger should be rejected for the following
reasons:
* The AEEU is a rogue
union. It is notorious for poaching members from other unions and entering into
sweetheart agreements with employers. The
AEEU even preyed on MSF at the Prudential Assurance while merger talks were
going on.
* The structure
proposed for the merged union is even more centralised and less democratic than
we have at present. Misconduct of every kind has flourished at the top of MSF
in recent years – it will be even easier for this to happen in the merged
union. Nearly £1,000,000 has been wasted
already in covering up sleaze in MSF.
* The merger process
has been distinguished by gross deceit. The membership and resources of the two
unions have been hugely exaggerated. The consultative poll last year was biased
in ways that would make a proper merger ballot illegal. There is no foundation
to the promises of improved resources for workplace organising. Expenditure in MSF is having to be cut at
the moment.
MSF has a promising
future in its own right, once we obtain a competent and honest leadership. But
all that will be lost if the merger goes through. Use your vote to make sure
that does not happen.
